Graphite electrodes are commonly used when produce nickel and other non-ferrous metals, for example, copper, lead and so forth. In nickel smelting furnaces, they are used to generate heat and keep a high temperature that required to melt raw materials and conducive to the chemical reaction that results in nickel production.

Electric arc furnaces: The graphite electrodes are frequently used in EAFs for nickel smelting. EAFs main role is to melt the raw materials and they are typically nickel ore, iron ore, and coal or coke. They get heat energy from the electrical resistance created while the electrodes contact with the raw materials.

Rotary kilns: They can be used in rotary kilns in nickel smelting field,too. Rotary kilns are large, cylindrical furnaces that used to make many kinds of materials, nickel ore is one of them and they can also be used to yield heat and keep a high temperature in the kiln, which is required to melt the nickel ore and help this kind of chemical reaction.

Production of anodes: Graphite electrodes are used when yield anodes for nickel smelting. Anodes are specially manufactured by a mixture of coke and graphite, and they were molded into the needed shape and do further baking in a furnace and they are used to produce heat and maintain a controlled temperature during baking process, which is necessary to create a strong and durable anode.
