Electrodes from graphite are utilized in various industries, one of them is metallurgy. Graphite has great inertness in gases, liquids and solids and its main feature of is the high electrical conductivity. Our graphite products are mainly supplied to steelmaking industries for feeding electrical energy to the Electrical Arc Furnace (EAF) working space.

In terms of an electric arc furnace, it is a flexible unit to melt which means it can work with 100% metal scrap or mix charge with direct reduction iron, HBI and pig iron to combine a charge mix. Electric arc furnace is one of the main steelmaking processes in the later quarter of the 20th century. It can process about 30% of the total crude steel production in the world. Nearly 50% of the energy in the EAF is supplied by electric arc and the other 50% being provided through chemical reactions. The graphite electrode plays the role of supplying the electricity from arms holders (clamps) to the charge mix into EAF to support the process of melting.

While using different furnaces for melting purposes, graphite electrodes must be with different dimensions, for instance, for direct current furnace, it requires 1 column of graphite electrodes with a high maximum current density. The diameter of these electrodes is getting bigger. Normally, the maximum will be 32 inches. For alternation current furnaces, basically it requires 3 columns of graphite electrodes and mostly comes with a standard size of 20-28 inches. For Refining furnaces, they are utilized for refining materials like molten steel. LF furnaces have a smaller capacity than DC. Xinhui Carbon is a specialist in the production of various types and dimensions of graphite electrodes. Our products have been widely applied in different furnaces in the world.
