The material used for graphite electrode nipples is generally a mixture of graphitized petroleum coke and coal tar pitch, and the material endure multiple processing steps, extrusion, baking, high-pressure impregnation, and graphitization contained, to make high-density, high-strength, and high-conductivity graphite electrode nipples. By doing this, the graphitized petroleum coke and coal tar pitch mixture are heated to high temperature, making volatiles and impurities in petroleum coke and coal tar to be eliminated, and thus the graphite structure formed. These graphitized materials can be transformed into blocks, rods, or tubes of graphite electrodes and nipples, which are used for conducting and refractory work in electric arc furnaces and other high-temperature melting process.
