Within the usage of graphite electrodes, it's well known that in high temperature environments graphite has excellent physical performance. While the temperature above 1000, it doesn't form solid oxides to protect against oxidation. Over many years, there have been numerous proposals to provide protective matter on the issue of reduction loss of graphite by oxidation. For example, the application of a powder mixture to a hot electrode to form a protective coating. Mixed material provided the protection by continuously forming an adherent coating and enhancing the extra presence of refractory filler in the coating. This filler supports by increasing the viscosity of the fused mixed material so the coating won't drip off from the surface and the coating keeps a certain degree of fluidity over a wide temperature range making it survive substantial temperature fluctuations.
In the process of utilization, while the hot electrode is withdrawn from the furnace, the lower portion normally is hotter than the upper part. It caused certain limitations on the application of the coating composition with mixed materials in the furnace. Especially, the cooler upper part of the graphite electrode can't achieve certain temperatures to form fusion of the fusible material and formation of an adherent coating, but the lower portion of the graphite electrode has formed the coating temporarily. This limitation can't be solved by just changing the proportion of the fusible material.
This way applied in the form of a powder mixture. To minimize any segregation of the particles during or before application, the ingredients maybe formed into composite particles or granules. Xinhui Carbon has a strong technical research team for supporting the technology improvement in the industry. They found that graphite mixture material is preferable with boron compound or boron-containing glass.
