Calcined petroleum coke (CPC) is a high-quality carbon material produced by heating green petroleum coke to a high temperature (usually above 1200°C) in a rotary kiln. It is used extensively as a raw material in the production of carbon anodes for aluminum smelting, graphite electrodes for electric arc furnaces, and cathodes for steelmaking. CPC can also be used as a carbon additive in the production of ferroalloys, and as a component in the production of carbon paste, brake linings, and ceramics. CPC with high hardness and density is particularly useful in applications that require abrasion resistance and mechanical strength, such as in the production of brake linings and refractory materials. Low nitrogen CPC is preferred for applications that require low levels of nitrogen content, such as in the production of titanium metal.
